Wooden Leash Plugs and Surfboard Vents

Sine Surf makes wooden hardware for hollow and wooden surfboard builders. Our vented leash plug is our main product: a precision-machined Spotted Gum plug with a Gore-Tex/Teflon vent that lets air out of the board while keeping water out. We also make surfboard vents and longboard fin boxes.

Why venting matters in a hollow board

The air inside a hollow core expands and contracts with changes in temperature and pressure. A vented leash plug lets the board breathe while keeping water out.

Vented leash plugs: two models

Both models are drop-in replacements for standard plastic 32mm (1 1/4") OD plugs. Both have a Spotted Gum body, a Gore-Tex/Teflon vent with a 10mm hole for fast venting, and a 316 stainless steel pin. Which one you need depends on how your board is built.

Glass-type vented leash plug

Our glass-type vented leash plug has a 1.5mm resin lip, like conventional plugs, so it is glued in and laminated over. Tape the top of the lip before laminating and sand it flush afterwards.

  • 16mm (5/8") thick
  • Vented and unvented versions
  • Sold as singles and in packs up to 100

No-glass vented leash plug

Our no-glass vented leash plug is for boards that don't need the resin lip, such as boards with foam cores. It is installed with standard epoxy resin rather than thicker epoxy glue.

  • 15mm (5/8") thick, with ridges around the body for resin keying
  • 1.5mm laser-cut plywood spacer already attached, to protect the vent membrane from resin
  • Sold as singles and in packs up to 100

Surfboard vents

Our wooden surfboard vent is a direct replacement for typical 32mm vented plugs, about 20mm thick. A CNC-machined Spotted Gum base is glued into the board, and a metal M12 vent is screwed in after lamination.

  • Nickel-plated copper vent, polished to chrome or left to develop a copper patina
  • Base sealed underneath, so you drill a 4 to 5mm hole through it after lamination
  • Vent removes to open the hole fully or drain water
  • Grooves on the outside suit low-viscosity epoxy
  • Sold in packs from 1 to 50

Longboard fin boxes

Our wooden longboard fin box is precision-made from Spotted Gum and sold unfinished. It is 25mm wide and 265mm long, with a 27mm install depth, and it matches the FCS longboard box, so your existing router bits and jigs work.

  • Install in a solid area of Paulownia with plenty of timber on all sides, especially underneath
  • Can be installed before or after lamination
  • Oil after installation
  • Not suitable for PU or PS boards unless installed in Paulownia

Wooden surfboard hardware questions

Which vented leash plug do I need?

Use the glass-type plug if you are gluing it in and laminating over it. Use the no-glass type if you are installing it with resin, which suits boards with foam cores.

Will the leash plug replace my plastic plug?

Yes. Both models are drop-in replacements for standard 32mm (1 1/4") OD plastic plugs.

Do I need to add the plywood spacer?

No. On the no-glass type the spacer is already attached.

Do you sell hardware in bulk?

Yes. Packs run up to 100 for leash plugs and up to 50 for vents, and wholesale pricing is available on request.

Do you ship hardware?

Yes. Hardware is sent with Australia Post, within Australia and internationally. See shipping and delivery.
